A Perfect 10
Nadia Comaneci from Romania made Olympic history by being the first athlete to score a perfect 10 and she did it in women's gymnastics. She went on to perform 7 perfect 10s total and won 3 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
She trumped Olga Korbut, who four years earlier in Munich was the darling gymnast with three gold medals.
The term, "A perfect 10" or just "10" quickly became a popular saying of the 70's referring to anyone who was great or beautiful. It ultimately lead to the 1979 film, "10" by Blake Edwards and stared Bo Derek where looks mattered more than ability.
For one of her routines, Nadia used a theme song from an American daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless. Seizing on the opportunity, A&M Records released the single and redoubt it Nadia's Theme.
An example of how popular she was, the song--solely based on the connection to Comanceci--zoomed up the charts ultimately taking the number 8 spot on the Billboard Music Charts by the end of 1976.

Within days, many of the members came down with an acute pneumonia illness. Before it was all over, 221 people were affected and 34 of those died of this mysterious illness.
